The Commissioners of Matagorda County Navigation District No. One are pleased to announce the appointment of Debbie G. Morris as Port Director, effective February 20, 2009. Mrs. Morris has been an employee of the Navigation District since April 2002 and most recently served as County Investment Officer and Office Manager under former Port Director Tony Rigdon. Mr. Rigdon left MCND #1 in early February after 4-1/2 years with the District and is currently the Executive Director for the Port of Victoria.

The Port of Palacios recently completed its fourth turning basin and is home to a diverse group of businesses, including shrimping and seafood distribution, shipyards, barge and tugboat manufacturing, recreational boat manufacturing, an RV park and two marinas. Also, in recent months, bulk cargo barges have utilized the Port as a base to move aggregate for area developers.
